CCU moves forward with new Doctor of Physical Therapy degree
The Coastal Carolina University board of trustees approved moving forward with a new Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree program during its general meeting on Friday.
The new degree program must also be approved by CCU faculty, the South Carolina Commission on Higher Education and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.

They must also seek accreditation before the program can be officially added to the University curriculum. Pending all approvals, the program could launch by Fall 2028.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of physical therapists is projected to grow 17% from 2021 to 2031, which exceeds the average growth rate for all occupations (5%). In Horry County, the healthcare industry is the third largest employer. The county is one of the fastest growing in the country, including an increasing population of individuals 50 and older.
